I am trying to subtract some cubes from an extruded plane.
Voxel Buildings 3D model
However, my object seems to compleely disappear. It comes back as the voxel size is lowered, but I cannot get enough detail before it gets too low and starts to take a lot of time to render.
Is there a work around to this, or am I doing something wrong? Xbox model. Honestly, Ill probably try to model this a different way. Was just curious on this subject. You can post now and register later. If you have an account, sign in now to post with your account.

So you can find Cinema 4D tutorials that mix third-party Modifiers and Effectors with native tools, use Turbulence FD to convect X-particles and then visualise them with the Hair shader, shatter meshes with Nitroblast and then animate them with Signal Every now and then you find a plugin that doesn't offer a means to a particular end, but inspires you to investigate further nonetheless.
Trypogen is one such plugin. It's a generator plugin that lets you take a simple object and create something that combines the best of mathematical-based processes with the random and organic nature of the more playful side of 3D. It's a bit of a niche product, but Trypogen encourages playful experimentation and can actually yield beautiful, if unexpected, results in very little time.
Combine that with its compatibility with MoGraph, and you have a very useful tool for little cost. This amazing particle and VFX system has a host of useful features. You can create stimulations for cloth, smoke, fire and fluids, for example, and it integrates seamlessly into Cinema 4D. If you can use C4D, you can use X-Particles. TurbulenceFD is a voxel-based fluid dynamics simulation system for making fire and smoke. It's easy to use, includes studio presents and has built-in support for renderers Octane, Arnold and Redshift.
Scroll Roll Deformer was designed to help create rolling paper and carpet-like effects, says Daniel Fitzgerald, developer at Curious Animal, but he found it was also a fun way to create sprouting animations. Scroll Roll also turned out to be perfect for growing sprouting objects and growing feathers. By scaling these objects up from nothing as they unroll he was able to transition them on smoothly, but in a much more interesting way than a simple scale.
When applied to a mesh, Motion Stretch Deformer — as you might guess — stretches the geometry according to its movement, creating things like motion trails. As its name suggests, SplinePatch 3. This is ideal for creating complex forms that remain editable and animatable, such as cars, clothing, characters, packaging or other convoluted shapes.
Forester is a procedural vegetation creation plugin that makes an endless variety of grass, trees and plants, and that also comes with a rock generator and a scattering function, called the Multicloner. Its latest update also integrates with C4D's Variation shader, so you can colour your leaves randomly. It provides a set of over 65 presets for various animation sequences, which can then be tweaked to suit. It works well on text, clone arrays or fractured objects made using Nitroblast.
The Difference Map is a handy plugin that enables you to layer effects on top of your deformation by creating a vertex map describing the effect of the deformer on each point in your model. So, if using Impact deformer to create ripples, you could use the Difference Map tab to create a vertex map that you reference in a material to give those ripples a different colour to the rest of the object.

Surprisingly, the tutorial is about the rendering we already know!
No worries, it is not nearly as slow as you fear. The tutorial will definitely change the way you see rendering in CINEMA 4D, especially open scenes like exterior, automotive, packaging design, product designs, engineering and so on. It can also be used in interior shots; though it may take slightly longer, it will generate incredible and physically accurate results. The hidden engine I will show you may be able to totally substitute all of the main render technologies and features CINEMA 4D offers, because it can play a role of a true physical-based rendering engine, operating at a much faster pace.
If are you looking for something close to semi-unbiased rendering engines such as Arnold, hold on. More than 2 hours of very advanced and unique rendering techniques!
The full semi-unbiased Kid Bike project is included! You can buy the tutorial here:. So, I have also prepared a free tutorial for you. This tutorial will demonstrate how to effectively use the upgraded metaball object and combine it with a spline toolset that CINEMA 4D R17 offers, to create a very pleasant interactive, volume painting.

There are two types of Volumes depending on which is selected, either Boole or blend options will be available in the Object List :.
Signed Distance Field. What does this Volume type do? Polygons, points and particles themselves have no volume.
In order to generate volume, layers of Voxels are placed around these elements over and under polygon surfaces. The Voxels are arranged in a Voxel Grid:. The polygon surface can only be generated within the Voxel layers i. This Volume Type is primarily suited for rendering fluids, fire, fog and smoke you can load smoke and fluids simulations from third-party applications. Simply put, it fills closed volumetric polygon objects entirely with Voxels.
When working with particles, splines or points, Volumes are generated around the points using a scalable radius. A value between 0 outer and 1 inner is saved for each Voxel. How precisely the value range is distributed is defined by the Inside Voxel Falloff setting.
This option is somewhat different from the two previously described options. Here, Volume Vectors and not voxels are created for modeling. This is a spatial distribution of vectors.
The Voxel Size setting also plays a role here because all vectors withing a voxel are identical with regard to value and direction, which defines the "resolution" of the Volume Vectors. Voxels can contain all types of values for modeling purposes, for example if Volume Type is set to Signed Distance Field the distance from the surface.
A limited voxel view around a polygon surface, e. What are these Volume Vectors good for?
Freshly made voxels
You can, for example, control forces using the Field Force. Voxel Size [0. Use this value to define the Voxel size, i. The smaller the value, the more precise the result and the longer the render times will be. If you enter values that are too low, a warning prompt will be displayed.Just started looking into using Volume Builders for very simple object and cannot believe that they are slow to handle even when using simple parametric objects… It seems to require a lot of memory and when closing files takes an age while C4D clears all the memory.
Anyone know of speedups? Cache layers can help and of course you should only use a voxels size that is not smaller than you actually need. The Volume Builder is converting your mesh into a volume data structure that is cubic in memory consumption and complexity.
You should find the correct use cases for it because this condition can limit it for some things that it seems to be useful for, but practically isn't. If you feel like you need a very low voxel size, then it might not be the correct tool for your task. As soon as the objects were converted to a volume, it doesn't matter for the rest of the operations how complex the input object was. The conversion is most of the time a smaller part of the complete computation time.
Most parts of the Volume workflow are parallelized so a high core count CPU with enough memory help a lot. This is without question a tool that needs the right hardware to work productively with.
